Lean for Winery Production

5/25, 12:30-1:00 PM (PT)

Presenter: Walt Tarpley, Vice President of Client Services / Manex

Lean production is a way to identify and help to eliminate hidden, non-essential activities and production steps. It can be used to address a diverse range of practical problems around winery processes and procedures. Lean production is used to sharpen the focus of wineries to help rethink production, reduce high operating costs and simplify day-to-day tasks. It is designed to improve a business’s bottom line, but it is not just a cost-cutting exercise; it is a new way of thinking about existing operations. What is lean production? Lean production is a system of tools and practices to reduce human effort, space, materials and expenditure. Anywhere work is being done, waste is being generated. Waste could come in the form of non-value adding activities such producing more than necessary, time in waiting, movement, re-work or double handling, unnecessary processing and misuse of materials (hard waste). Lean production focuses on minimizing these types of waste and improving productivity through improved flow and relationship to the customer. Once implemented, lean production can allow better decision-making to reduce expenditure, increase profitability and create a happier workplace.

Wineries have a wealth of customer data to help them make stronger decisions on wine pricing and inventory depletion optimization but very few of them have the staff with the skill to execute the analytics. Mather Economics has developed a tool to transform customer transactional data—directly from your current fulfillment vendor—into actionable insights at the varietal level and to track results (and make adjustments) throughout the sales process. We hope you will join us for this thought provoking discussion/ demonstration to help you uncover the valuable data you have available to your winery and how easy it is to use it to make business decisions.

Harvesting Clean Customer Data to Help grow Sales, from Tasting Room to POS to Loyalty

5/27, 12:30-1:00 PM (PT)

Presenter: WineryConnect Staff

Wineries market products best when they know exactly who their customers are and where they are in the “loyalty curve,” from first-time tasters to purchasers to loyal wine club members. Many systems exist to help wineries harvest and manage “clean” and accurate customer data, and use it to drive sales. But finding a customer relationship management (CRM) software system that integrates fully with each winery’s chosen Point of Sale (POS) and other systems can be a challenge. Wineries also need systems designed with controlled commerce laws in mind, to help manage everything from interventions to prevent sales to minors, to accurately paying excise taxes, to strictly following customer data privacy laws via careful use of opt-ins. Customer data should also include purchase history, allowing relationship marketing based on past preferences, and automated tracking of discount levels in a wine club or other loyalty program. Presenters from WineryConnect will discuss and demonstrate their customer data management offerings, from a “Contactless Guestbook” that helps ensure wineries don’t miss interested customers who come through their tasting rooms, to a plug-and-play loyalty club module that auto-calculates discounts, to an excise tax management option that generates required reporting data automatically from inventory and POS.
